Today, the ancient science of Ayurveda is becoming more and more popular in our country. This traditional healing method from India has served mankind for thousands of years and is more than just a system of medicine, it is also a philosophy and a way of living a healthy life.

Benefits of Ayurveda, a holistic approach

Ayurveda focuses on maintaining good health in harmony with nature. It provides individual guidance to people based on their different body types (prakriti). Ayurveda is complex, encompassing all the healing traditions known today: yoga, pranayama (breathing techniques), aromatherapy, phytotherapy, astrology, Vastu and similar sciences.

Personalised healthy nutrition

Ayurveda is deeply connected to the science of nutrition, which is a vital and effective tool for maintaining good health. The ingredients, spices, herbs and herbal teas recommended for different body types may vary, even the way in which the food is prepared may differ.

The science of flavours

Ayurveda recognizes six tastes (rasa): sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent, astringent. These have different effects on the different body types, their physiology and tissues. Tastes have various effects on different diets, so ayurveda recommends tailoring the flavour to your body type and current energy balance.

Body constitution type: doshas

When we measure the balance of the three doshas – vata, pitta, kapha – that are made up of the basic elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether) in a person’s body, we can determine the type of body constitution. By knowing our body type, we can determine what foods are good for our health, which ones are not so good, what lifestyle recommendations we should follow in our day-to-day lives, and what environmental influences we should seek out or avoid. Panchakarma – detoxification

Ayurveda identifies the accumulation of toxins as a major cause of disease. Our tissues function better when they are not overloaded with ama (toxins). Ayurveda takes into account the body’s ability to heal itself and uses panchakarma therapy in combination with a diet appropriate to the body type. It is very important that the patient is an active participant in the healing process. Panchakarma cleansing is often sufficient for the tissues to regenerate.

The holistic approach of Ayurveda

Ayurveda takes a comprehensive, or holistic, all-round approach. It takes into account our health and current imbalances. It examines these in relation to the environment and the universe and applies natural therapies and remedies accordingly.

Following the principle of ahimsa (no-harm), ayurveda aims to promote the well-being and health of the body for spiritual development and self-realization. Ayurveda is more than “just” the science of maintaining health. It helps you to acquire the knowledge to take control of your health and wellness.
