In Ayurveda, sesame seed is considered a solid source of energy and vitality. It is heating and nourishing, and is great choice especially in the cold winter months.
Why is sesame seed special?
Nourishing and strengthening: rich in protein, healthy fats and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc
Warming: helps counteract the cold, dry energy of the vata dosha and also helps maintaining kapha dosha balance
Beauty care: sesame oil moisturises both inside and out, strengthening skin and hair. In Ayurveda sesame oil is often used during abhyanga (warm oil massage).
Digestive support: promotes healthy digestion and helps maintain agni (digestive fire) balance
Ingredients: Sesame energy ball
- 1 cup roasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup dates (seedless, chopped)
- 2 tablespoons ghee or coconut oil
- a pinch of ground cardamom
How to prepare
Mix the roasted sesame seeds, dates and cardamom in a blender until you have a smooth paste. Add a little ghee to soften the texture. Form into small balls – you can roll in sesame seeds to your taste – and refrigerate. Perfect for a healthy snack or as an energy boosting treat after a long day.
