Asafoetida, also known as Hing, or Devil’s Root, is a very typical ingredient in Indian cuisine. It has roots related to the giant fennel. The asafoetida has a unique smell and taste, it is very distinctive on its own but mellows when cooked and becomes onion-like. It is very healthy to consume because it helps reduce bloating, digests fats and stimulates digestion.
The pleasant aroma of Asafoetida comes out best when fried in hot oil for 2-3 seconds.
