A thangka (tangka or tanka) is a Tibetan Buddhist painting originally made by lamas or Buddhist priests. It can depict a deity or a mandala, is an integral part of Buddhist practice, and serves as an important teaching tool depicting the life of the Buddha.

The mandala, which means 'circle' in Sanskrit, is a geometric shape with symbolic meaning. It is used for meditation, prayer, healing and art therapy by adults and children alike. Mandalas have been clinically studied to strengthen the immune system, reduce stress and pain, lower blood pressure, promote sleep and relieve depression.

The yantra images depict symmetrical geometric shapes, which radiate cosmic positive energies, curb negative energies and help individuals ascend spiritually.

Discovering new cultures, exploring a new place, meeting local people and artists, and getting the chance to see our world through their eyes is always one of the most exciting parts of our travels. We return home from every trip with spiritual and material memories, finding many things in the local markets and small shops that we can't find at home. With the spread of globalisation, mass-produced items are increasingly replacing the wonderful things made by local craftsmen and artists. Our aim is to bring a tiny corner of the world to our own country, supporting the families, artists and craftspeople who have brought so many beautiful memories into our lives through their creations. Helping them to continue their craft and to keep alive the traditions of their country and their people so that they can continue to delight travellers and pilgrims for many years to come.

Introducing our partners:

Surendra is one of the artists who has created the hand-painted, richly detailed mandalas, thangkas, which you can find on our site. We first met in Pokhara in 2010, and since then he has also opened a shop in Kathmandu where you can choose from a selection of his beautiful works. In the other picture, a fellow artist is painting a Kalachakra mandala.

Amla – Indian gooseberry

Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, contains a greater amount of natural vitamin C and has an extremely high content of antioxidant. Amla, according to Ayurveda, is the perfect fruit because it contains all 6 flavors, which include: salty, sweet, sour, spicy, acerbic and bitter. A very important medicinal plant, which has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 5000 years.

Amla’s reputation is confirmed by scientific research, thereby proving its immunostimulating property.

It harmonizes all 3 Ayurvedic types, Vata and Pitta mainly through its sweetness and Kapha for its drying effect. According to Ayurveda, Amla is one of the strongest rasayana products, i.e. rejuvenating composition, which is especially important for blood, bones, liver, heart and skin.

Clinical research has shown that Amla is being absorbed more effectively and has more effective clinical effects than synthetic vitamine C, also known as ascorbic acid. Absorption is greatly facilitated by Amla’s extremely high antioxidant content. Since Amla is not acidic but acerbic, there is no danger of peeing the whole thing out for the first time – because of its astringency, vitamine C drags itself into the mucous membranes of the intestine and slowly injects itself.

Four Nobel Prize laureate scholars and professors were interviewed from the world’s best-known clinical centers. L. Newbold, the “The cancer war: The case for vitamine C” (translation: Vitamine C Against Cancer), the author of the book reported on the latest vitamine C research as the most promising weapon that can fight cancer — not only as a treatment, but also as prevention.

In combination with 43 more medicinal agents, but mainly from Amla, the world-famous Chyawanprash product of Charak Rishi is produced.

What does it consist of?

Dried and ground fruit of Emblica officinalis (also known as Indian chestnut or Amla).

    I felt stronger, healthier!

I took Amla during the winter period. I felt stronger, healthier, no viruses, infections, even though I work among young children, where there are many children with cold and cough very close to me.
