Bala, (Sida cordifolia), is a powerful tonic, rejuvenating (rasayana) herb useful for treating all kinds of vata (air) disorders. The word ‘bala‘ means ‘strength‘. It nourishes, strengthens, stimulates and rejuvenates the heart. Bala is useful in cases of arthritis, to reduce pain and swelling in the joints, especially the knee joints. It helps relieve the symptoms of chronic bronchitis. Pacifies vata and pitta dosha.
Sida cordifolia, commonly known as ‘country mallow‘, is a herb with a long tradition of use in various parts of the world, particularly in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. It has beneficial effects on blood circulation, joints and the nervous system, and strengthens our stamina.
What is Bala?
Sida cordifolia is a perennial herb of the Malvaceae family. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Asia, Africa and parts of the Americas. The plant typically grows to 1-1.5 m tall with heart-shaped leaves and small yellow flowers. It contains flavonoids, which are plant compounds known for their antioxidant properties. The flavonoids contribute to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It also contains phytosterols, compounds of plant origin with a structure similar to cholesterol. Phytosterols may have a number of health benefits, including potential cholesterol-lowering effects.
