Annual Health Care Programme: March & April

🌿 March and April are the months for hormonal balance in the annual health care programme💚

In Ayurveda, hormonal balance is recognised as a key factor for overall health and vitality. The hormonal balance, also known as the endocrine system, plays a crucial role in maintaining various physiological processes for both men and women.

For men, hormones such as testosterone are essential for the development of the male reproductive organs, sperm production, muscle mass regulation, maintenance of bone density and the manifestation of secondary sexual characteristics. In addition, hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline help regulate metabolism and stress responses.

For women, hormonal balance controls menstrual cycles, fertility, pregnancy and menopause. Oestrogen and progesterone determine reproductive function, while other hormones such as thyroid hormones and insulin play a role in metabolism, energy regulation and general health.

Healthy hormonal balance through an Ayurvedic lens

The balance of the hormonal system ensures proper functioning and coordination of bodily functions. It affects everything from growth and development to mood, metabolism and reproductive health for both women and men. The arrival of spring is a great time to re-energise our hormonal systems after the long winter months.

Based on Ayurvedic observations, hormonal imbalance typically occurs when there is an excess or deficiency of certain doshas (biological energies) in the body. These doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – control various physiological and psychological functions. Hormonal imbalances are considered by Ayurveda as a symptom of dosha imbalance, which may manifest in different ways in different individuals. For example, Pitta excesses can trigger symptoms such as irritability, inflammation or excessive heat in the body, while Vata imbalances can result in irregular menstrual cycles, insomnia or anxiety. Similarly, Kapha imbalance can manifest as weight gain, lethargy or depression. If you’d like to find out your Ayurvedic body type, complete our free online test.
